They are good for industrial applications. A lot of proprietary devices use them, for instance, an ATM or a Chick-fil-A register. I am not sure why anyone would need one for home use, because they are generally more expensive and less expandable. Since they are completely integrated, however, one could argue that they are more reliable, but in a modern computer, the reliability factor comes down to O/S choice and good drivers for any additional hardware, and most hardware should outlive the life of the computer. I have seen blown capacitors on motherboards, but they are generally like 8-10 years old, which is like the Stone Age in computer terms.
