How do you broadcast audio over the internet with realtime?

I have a friend that wants to do real time audio broadcasting. play by play of a hockey game. What are some of the tools and technologies you could use. I know Leo Laporte uses Stickam for Video broadcasing but I am looking for something purely audio and can be done from a laptop or desktop computer

You could do Live365. They have packages for both individual, and larger schemes if he wants. Prices range anywhere from $10/mo - $99/mo, depending on what he needs. He can do a live stream, then upload a recording of it for playback...the link below has some of the details...

Ustream is a video broadcasting site. However, there are a number of podcasts (such as WoW Insider) that use it purely for audio, leaving a placeholder image in the video window. This method allows you to use other Ustream features, such as polling the audience, during an audio OR video podcast.

Audio Only: http://www.shoutcast.com/
Ustream.tv and Stickam.com are video and audio, shoutcast is just audio.

Icecast is a free, open source GPL program which can stream live MP3s. It might be helpful for what you are doing.
