Is there a site that is better than My Space to host a memorial?

I'd like it to be easy for people to access and make comments.

I would also like the ability to post pictures and music since he was a musician.

Is there anything that's not expensive and not My Space?

A great site specifically made for this is Tributes.com Check it out:

http://www.tributes.com

Another new site is ZooLoo, a place where you can make your own domain. You might want to try ZooLoo out.

http://www.zooloo.com

Here are some examples of ZooLoo pages below. Although they are not memorials, I can see a memorial for this.

Another good one you might want to try is Ning

Thanks for all the different options Mr. E.
I will take everyones input and post the different options to the family.
It's nice to have a list of good memorial sites (they all seem to have a fee around $50. I think it's reasonable, but I'm not paying for it)
and also to have some other options like Ning.

It's hard for the direct family to do deal with this when they're already dealing with so much more.
Hell, it's even hard for me, but that's what being a friend is... right?

That does look nice, but it's only free for 14 days, then you have to pay a monthly price, or a package price of $55.
I'll ask the family and see if they want to pay that much.

You can make your own free website for them. A http://www.wix.com/ It's all free and you can add anything to it.

You can also use http://www.imorial.com/ it's also free and kid of cool.

I'm adding this one to the list too, even though it's only free for a short time.
I don't see how these companies can offer great hosting with some kind of price. Thanks @psynopsis.

No, I think it's absolutely free. They make money from ads.

A lot of folks are using social networking and group software for tributes because they are really easy to setup and include photo, video and discussions.

Top three are probably:

Ning.com
Google Groups
Facebook Groups

After I posted this question, I went out to breakfast and thought about how companies could sell sites. Looking at memorials from a business point of view, you can't really offer something like this for free (virtual-memorials.com and imorial.com) since it won't remain a traffic driven sight for very long. I never really thought about using a group. I will pass this along and hope that the family uses a group rather than My Space.
Thanks for the ideas Jason!

I would look into three options.
First: Memory-of.com. Memory-of is a website that allows you to create a memorial page for that special person. People can comment, but in a much more memorial type way than Facebook or MySpace. You can also have the site turned into a book that you can always keep at home.

Second: Facebook. I feel Facebook is a much nicer interface. In my experience there is much less spam than on MySpace.

Third: Blogger. I would look into different ways that you can build a blog for free. I know that it can be done with Blogger, and it is free and easy to do so.

I hope this helps. Sorry for your loss.

another additional option to consider are the geneology websites, just to put in the birth, death dates and other information for family history

Yes! I beleive that Facebook is a better place than my space for hosting a memorial because i beleive that myspace has triggered more younger people and facebook has caught on to more older people.

Myspace is known for people posting rude comments regarding dead people. Stay away!

Thanks, I'll pass the word along. I'm hoping that with the list of other sites I have here, that they won't use it. I personally don't like that site at all!
