There is Grand Central, owned by Google, which gives you one phone number for life that will ring wherever you want it to ring. Sounds like it would accomplish the opposite of what you're wanting, though.

Is there a company that allows me to transfer my home number so that it just goes to a voicemail service
I have a landline that I would like to disconnect. However, I want that number to simply go to a voicemail box. Is there a service that will allow me to do this?
I also do not want to use Vonage or some other type of VOIP service.
Thank you.

I can't seem to find one. We're in the process of completely rethinking our utilities/services so I've been doing a lot of searching lately, and I've not seen anything like what you're asking for. Sounds like it would accomplish the opposite of what you're wanting, though.

I agree that Grand Central sounds like it is the answer, but it has been closed to new sign-ups ever since Google bought them ...
