Thanks for the replies, they are both vaguely in the class of sites I was talking about.
I found the one I was looking for, it was outQuib.
I found this at http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/online_debate_sites.php , which listed CreateDebate, Riled Up, Wis.dm, outQuib, and Jyte.

Answered Question

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
I'm trying to find a particular web site that I think allows users to create a poll and provides a forum for debate.
I think the site was intended to produce heated debate, and may have had a name that reflects that, like hot topics, or flamewars, or the name might have had something to do with alligators . This is one of those "i'm trying to think of a book, i don't know the name or the plot or the author, can you help" sort of questions. The site is not real old, a few years, and I think I posted at it, and maybe SL avatar Lordfly Digeridoo also posted there.

• I'm not sure if I should have answered my own question, but I found the answer elsewhere and didn't want people to waste time answering a solved problem.
