I recommend setting up forums on your site. Forums are easier to navigate for most people and those who opt to only have email communications can do so as well by having posts emailed to them.
There are several free forum applications out there but perhaps one of the most popular is phpBB. I have used it before on numerous websites and there is not only a lot of documentation on it, but it is pretty easy to install.
Hope this helped! =)
