How do you use Facebook Instant Messenger?

I've never used the messenger built into the site. My IM client of choice, Adium, supports the protocol http://www.adiumx.com/ making it as easy to talk to people on Facebook as it is on AIM. The Facebook app for the iPhone makes chatting easy as well. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284882215&mt=8

Using Facebook's instant messenger is simple. First you need to allow the application that runs Facebook IM. Then you simply click on the tab in the lower right-hand corner to see which of your friends is online. Double-click on the friend you want to chat with. A small window will open up and you start typing to that friend. Hit "return" or "enter" to send the message. The convenient thing about it is that you can keep the mini window open after you leave the Facebook page and still keep on chatting with your friends.

If you're asking how I put the product to use, I can tell you I don't! with 5,000 friends it's really annoying because random folks ping me every time i login to say "sup!"
