One of my cats just came home from the vet and the other cat is attacking her. How do I stop this? Why is she doing it?
We have now been home for a few hours and the older cat is not calming down at all. She is hissing and is all puffed up in attack mode every time she catches a glimpse of the other cat. I now have them in separate rooms. She is even attacking me by hissing scratching and growling. Why is she so angry and how can I get her to stop?
Next week is her turn to go to the vet for her yearly shots and checkup and this will probably start all over again. Do you have any advice? This happens all the time.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$@cmdezalia. I think you may be on the right track. Smell related information is frequently elusive to us humans (unless it is really obvious). I could be due to something the cat got at the vet (medicine, alcohol, etc) or its own pheromones.
@rachel. If the older cat is attacking you as well, check if your hands don't smell like a doctor's office or the ear medicine for the younger cat.
I'm not an expert in cats but I'm familiarized with animal behaviour in general.
Well, I tried the baby powder on both cats and even on myself but she is still as vicious as ever. I was hoping that today would be different, I separated them at night so they wouldn't fight while I was sleeping. She is still being hostile towards the younger cat. It could be the ear drop medicine she is smelling. That is the only thing I can think of now.
I am going to try that right now, I'll come back with an update to let you know how it goes. Thanks so much for the quick response.
Great! Glad to hear it. I would HIGHLY recommend using feliway. You can get it at PetsMart and Petco in both a spray and diffuser. I would suggest both especially since your kitty is having those reactions so quickly.
I will try that and thank you for the tips. I've never heard of feliway before, I am going to look into it now. Thanks again.
