On Nokia phones there is a 'Flash Message' option. Can I send one from another phone by inserting certain characters into my text?
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The message must be coded in a special character set and message parts are made blinking by using a character code not defined in the standards. No phone allows writing those special characters, however, new phones may allow editing a message coded in the special character set. The special characters for blinking (and usually the blinking messages) must be written with a PC application. After that they can be forwarded as many times as required without PC.

I see. I thought your 'flash message' meant messages which 'flash' or blink. Glad you found the answer anyway.
From that site, I think this is more what I'm looking for:
quote- I asked my friend to send me a blinking text message to my phone (an Ericsson T28) and it did not flash or blink, but the cool thing was that it just instantly appeared on the screen. Why I did not have to click or go to the message menu to read the message?
The direct display and "not saving in the inbox" is the behavior of class 0 messages. They are very standard and can be used almost on all GSM phones. It has nothing to do with the "blinking messages" thing. You can create also these "instant" messages (class 0) with PanuWorld FLASHMSG./quote
Messages that instantly display... not blinking, I couldn't care less about blinking! The usage here is to get my luddite mother to read text messages that I send her without me *calling* her to walk her through the process (which defeats the purpose!)
