On memory specs, what do the C3, C4 or C5 bits mean?
When looking at different memory types and spec, I notice that some are C4, some are C3 etc etc. What does the C but actually mean?

The C3, C4 and C5 are cas latency timings, its hard to explain in huge detail. in simple terms, a C3 timed ram might have specs of 3 - 4 - 3 - 9, C4 would have specs something like 4 - 5 - 4 - 11 and so on , basically its relates to the first number. Now to break down the nos will use a C3 set of ram modules, so basically it could be 3 - 4 - 3 - 9, the first nos is Cas Latency timing, the second is RAS to CAS latency timing, and the third is RAS Pre Timing, and the fourth is RAS Act Time, to go any further would take for ever, but this what is listed in most bios, they could be listed slightly different, and many times these are set automatically by what they call a SPD, which is info in the ram that tells the bios what to set these timings at. To finish off, a C3 set of ram modules is faster then a set of C4 ram modules and so on.
