I think the Brazilians deserve it. We have olympics regularly here in the USA. I think it is time for this well deserving party host gets a chance. You just have to know it is going to be a party!

They own Carnival.

Disappointed, I was doubtful they would win, you had Los Angeles in 1984 and Atlanta in 1996 and Madrid was probably also out so really between Tokyo and Rio, Rio had the best chance because there has not been an Olympics in South America. All they can do is try again.

I dont feel bad for Chicago, but happy for Brazil and South America since they have not had an Olympics in that region at all.

I think every major city or country in the world deserves a chance at hosting the olympics. An opportunity to be shared for all.

I'm happy Rio got it (out of all the South American cities I think they always had the best shot), but I do feel bad since Chicago got nailed in the 1st round...was watching a youtube video with a CNN newscaster at a loss for words!

Being from the Chicago area, I was disappointed when I heard Chicago was eliminated. It would have been exciting to have it here and it would have brought a lot of exposure to the city and to the US.

Overall, it's not a big deal. Like others have mentioned, South America has never hosted the Olympics and I think it's about time they had their turn.

It should be a fun and excellent time in Rio!
The Brazilians know how to be good hosts and I am sure they
will be excellent Olympic hosts for 2016.

They also will be the host for the World Cup in 2014 so this is
a major big win for Brazil.
