OK MAC guys. I need a little help with my ultra reliable MAC

I have two printers on my MAC Pro, a Dell 5100cn and a Canon 6540 multipurpose does it all.

My MAC refuses to share them for more than about three days. At least twice a week they become unavailable to my other computers and I have to open up the system preferences -> Print and Fax. I re-click the 'Share this printer' check box and re-click the lock to 'prevent further changes'.

Every thing is fine for about three days then they are unlocked and unshared. and I have to do it all over. This has been going on for about a year and I am really getting frustrated.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You have encountered one of the most annoying (in my humble opinion) documented bugs in Mac OS X. If you are all updated in software (which I assume you are), there's nothing to do but wait for an update or consider investing in print servers. Here's what you can do to see if it fixes:
  1. Disconnect all devices
  2. Repair disk permissions
  3. Repair Disk
  4. Reconnect devices
  5. Create new software connections to the printers
  6. Test this. It may work. If not, you may need to wait for a bug fix
If you are really annoyed and have many client computers over an ethernet network, consider getting a print server.

Yes It is completely up-to-date.
I was not aware of the "Fix" you mention but I have done all those things several times.

It is only a home network. ONe desktop and two notebooks.
I guess I will just wait.

Thanks

Is the disconnecting happening when the computer goes to sleep? If it is then just don't let the computer go to sleep, you can put the monitor to sleep but not the computer. Do what the previous post suggest.
