Ok, I put bigger gauges in my ears, and I was playing with them tnite. And now my fingers stink! Why do my ears smell bad?

What you're smelling is flesh, and it is a nasty smell! I had asked my piercer the same question back when i got my ears done in 9th grade because I had to have them done a bigger size since i needed Titanium. They will smell like that until they are healed, however regularly cleaning them and switching the earring out so it can soak and get disinfected will help reduce the smell. At least that's what I did and I no longer have a problem with the smell.
Hope this helps!

I haven't noticed the smell with my ears for quite some time now....I clean mine daily...the smell grosses me out...Hmm..when I get that tat tomorrow I will ask the piercer at the parlor his opinion!
How big are your guages Teal? I'm at a 6 right now, and they still smell funny when I take them out (about once a week - maybe it's not enough). I've had them for years. As I understand it, because it in inside a circle, there is a higher concentration of dead skin being released from the inside of the hole, plus it has nowhere to go, unlike the rest of your skin. That, and most ares like this are constantly fighting small amounts of infection. Even after it's healed, any of your piercings can get an infection. Even your navel is prone to infection because of the way the skin sits. The smells is a combination of lymph, dead skin, and bits of infected material.
A lot of people I've talked to ALWAYS deal with the smell, at it gets worse the bigger you go, however you shouldn't notice it unless your playing with them or take them out.
This should just remind you that there are small tears in the hole, even if they don't bleed, and your ear is fully open to infection. Be sure to always wash your hands before you touch them!
