These are classics.
In case you're curious, most of it happens because they don't have past and future tense, i.e., "he ate" is "he eats yesterday", and "will eat" is "he eats tomorrow".
There's other factors, i.e. they don't use gender when talking about people, which means, no "he said" versus "she said", which seems odd to the english ear, but now you know how it sounds to french, who genderize *everything*, when anglos try to speak french.
