But more seriously:

To be frank, obese people simply don't live as long as lean people. They are more prone to heart disease and diabetes, and are less likely to survive serious injuries and surgeries. So with that, we have a global increase in death rate.

Before we go ahead and say that though, let's talk about how "global" this obesity scare really is. In America, there is no question that people are getting fatter (excuse the term, I just hate being politically correct all the time). We do have a large impact on the world, so in that aspect I can see how it is a global concern. On the other hand, not everyone is becoming obese. Poorer regions, obviously, aren't getting enough to eat to become fat, or even survive in extreme cases, but, unfortunately, these are regions with little effect on global goings-on.

What I do think we will see is a move of major economic markets to suit this new "fat mans world". There are already signs of this trend all around us. Foods are advertising larger and larger portions to compete with one another (Hungry Man Meals, Angus Burgers, etc.), as if to say that we want or need it. Also, when was the last time you bought clothes from Walmart? I know that I'm not getting any smaller, so I was surprised that my shirt size suddenly went from a Large to a Medium. I suppose convincing people that clothes shopping is less humiliating for those uncomfortable with their size when their size suddenly goes down, making them more willing to spend money in the Fat Man's Market.

Other than that, soldiers remain lean through diet and exercise (or rations and training), and after all, their the only people who make a difference being in or out of shape in a world of competitors.
