Oakland Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable punched out his assistant, breaking his jaw, ESPN reports. Does Cable have a history of violence?

The incident is said to have taken place August 5 at training camp. Randy Hanson, a third year defensive assistant coach was assaulted, and sustained a fractured jaw. He did not want to press charges, but, according to the website Fanhouse.com (via ESPN), staff at the hospital where he was treated "alerted authorities."

If it wasn't for some whistle blowing bloggers, this story never would have gotten out! Does anybody know if Tom Cable has a history of violence?

Being a long time UCLA fan, where Cable was offensive coordinator I don't ever remember him having any history of violence. It's not surprising though that he punched someone out, because the Raiders are just that bad and it must get really aggravating.
I also did a check of stuff from 2000-2007 in Google News and was unable to find anything about a potentially violent past.
Asker's Rating:
• It does seem that Tom Cable has a squeaky clean public record when it comes to reports of violent behavior.

But, in light of this recent leak to the press about his punching out his assistant coach—and the claims that this assistant coach wanted to keep the incident quiet—does beg the question: Does Tom Cable have frequent violent outbursts, but somehow manages to keep it quiet?

I guess we'll never really know...

I have some friends who played for him at UCLA, I'll check with them and see what I come up with.
