Protein/ISO Whey smoothie BEFORE or AFTER working out?

I know I need protein when working out, and I usually throw in a banana, some frozen fruit, milk and some vanilla protein powder.My question is, do I have this drink before I work out or after.Do my muscles need the protein when I'm working ou, or after?

I've heard some say before and after, some say after, some say before.

Personally I do best taking a caseinate-protein based shake (e.g. Muscle Milk) immediately following a workout, in conjunction with some L-glutamine to help the muscles recover. Whey is consumed relatively quickly, whereas caseinate protein is slower and hangs out in your system longer (you could also gain similar benefits from just eating some cottage cheese).

So you'd say to not have a ISO/Whey based shake, but a protien based one?
