Not that I would...but is it legal to shoot bats with a 12 gauge...one of my "rural" friends was just asking?

First things first, is it legal to shoot bats at all where you live?
In some places bats are a protected species, mostly because they eat so many bugs for us. Check with the Fish & Wildlife department in your state.
Secondly, consider if it is legal to shoot the gun where and when it is being shot, and by whom.
I doubt, when all is said and done, that shooting bats with a shotgun will be legal, but if it is, shoot a few for me.
