wow 'hpathiraja' nailed a few good ones I personally love... but too bad some/most arent even on kauai!

heres a list i put together off the top of my head...

1. Oki's diner (breakfast all day long, which is a big thing in hawaii)
2. Aloha Diner (only visited it a few times, but they have nice size plates for your money!)
3. Hamura(sp?) saimin stand (its awesome food, but sometimes tourists pass right by)
4. Smileys
5. Ono's

your other options are to ask locals working in the hotel your staying at... ask them what/where do they eat at nearby?... or what else can they recommend around the island?.. kauai isnt very big so im sure while your sight seeing you can make a stop.

=)

aloha!

Aah... cool! I've never been to Kauai. I just found those in a blog entry (see my source) and just shamelessly copy pasted :) Would definitely love to go visit it some day.

If you want to know from a local, the #1 spot to eat is Kintaro's. Great food and service at a reasonable price. Here are the best restaurants on the island:

- Kintaro's
- Fish Express (traditional local food. Grill is only open on the weekend)
- Baracuda (expensive, so rich local's only!)
- Snack Shop in Hanalei (local food)
- Monico's (who would think we would have authentic Mexican on Kauai)

Oki's & Aloha Diner or bad. Hamura's has great saimin (but the rest of their menu is suspect) but a bad atmosphere.

Big Island’s Cafe 100- very cheap local eats with generous portions. You won’t go hungry here.

G'day Sandyweb33,

Thanks for your question.

Frommers has a list of Kauai restaurants with recommendations.

Trip Advisor has restaurants rated by location.

Hopefully, this will help you find a nice place.

We spent a lot of time on the southern end of the island, near Lihue. The tourists seemed to be more concentrated up near Princeville. We found many small and wonderful little places near Lihue.

I enjoyed my meal in Kapaa at http://www.blossominglotus.com/about_kauai.htm
although I'm not a local. It was recommended by one!
