You don't need to seek out a brewery. Usually any distributor (contacted, perhaps, through you favorite pub or bar) can hook you up with a keg of root beer, and they might have a wider variety of soda's to choose from (e.g., creme soda - which may look more like beer upon the pour). For a small deposit (may $50-100), you'll get the keg of non-beer and the tap you need to pour it out.
To take the joke to the appropriate degree, be sure to get a plastic/rubber trash can that will fit the keg, and bags of ice to keep the 'beer' cold. Then get those white, semi-translucent plastic cups that are common at keggers. Set this up near the water cooler, and watch peoples' jaws drop open.

Where can I buy (online) a mini keg of root beer?
I'm looking for a joke for the office that involves bringing a "keg" into work... would like to get my hands on a mini keg of root beer online, with quick shipping. Anyone have any suggestions?

I just wanted to note that kegs aren't available for shipping from BevMo. They are pick-up only.

Mr. Spoon... I would recommend that you consider running over to your local brewery. Most micro-brews brew root beer. Although, you'd like to buy one online, chances are you can Go Local! and buy one very close by. I have included some rootbeer links for you in the source.

If part of the joke is that the keg (or root beer) is supposed to look like a keg (or beer), then you'll want to skip the online option and go local, as has been mentioned above. The price of stainless steel kegs is too great; picking up something local is the only affordable way to go. You don't need to seek out a brewery. Usually any distributor (contacted, perhaps, through you favorite pub or bar) can hook you up with a keg of root beer, and they might have a wider variety of soda's to choose from (e.g., creme soda - which may look more like beer upon the pour).
