Nnnnggg! A crack in my white MacBook casing. May have to seriously consider gaffer tape, but that can't be right! Any ideas...?

Bring it to the Genius Bar at an Apple store. Cracks in the casing are a known problem with white and black Macbooks. Mention that you have seen that mentioned online and you might be able to get it repaired even if it is no longer under warranty. Definitely worth a try.
