In what program in windows do you open the homebrew channel with to find the files that go on the sd card?
When I try to extract homebrew channel, it shows the file in winzip. When I try to open this file, it tries to open it in adobe photoshop and it even says that that program isn't able to open that file. Which program should i use to open homebrew or is there a different way altogether to open the file

You mean how do you open a .zip file? You need either
Winzip - http://www.winzip.com/ or
Winrar - http://www.rarlab.com/
To open a .gz file, you can use Winrar.
