This is one of the many reasons that I discourage people from modifying home consoles that were not meant to do so. The companies that produce these consoles are not friendly to this procedure, and have little concern for maintaining the systems of those who void their user licenses.

How do I uninstall homebrew software from the Wii to restore it to its factory state?
I need to install the WiiSpeak Channel and it requires me to update the firmware. If I update the firmware with homebrew software installed I run a serious risk of bricking my Wii. I want to revert the Wii back to original settings and remove all signs of homebrew. I have no interest in homebrew. I just got the Wii from a friend and I want it to be like new.

The Homebrew Channel Wiki, and gonintendo.com, state that the update to 4.2 will kill homebrew, but no one has reported the system becoming bricked as a result. You are right, though.. you do run this risk. This is one of the many reasons that I discourage people from modifying home consoles that were not meant to do so. The companies that produce these consoles are not friendly to this procedure, and have little concern for maintaining the systems of those who void their user licenses.
