She entered a guilty plea to money laundering and federal prostitution charges.
Apparently the Feds found a $1m in cash in the apartment she shared with Mark Brener, and she played a central role in running the prostitution ring.
It seems a six-month sentence is considered rather light in these circumstances, and is that light because the court considered her to under the domination of Mark Brener.
Maybe she was, or maybe it's a handy defense that a smart lawyer cooked up. "Gee, I'm young. I'm a woman... it was all my boyfriend's bad influence."
Anyway, a $1m in cash in your apartment, and guilty of money laundering - consider yourself very lucky to walk away with a 6 month sentence.

More equivalent would be the prostitute vs. the john. Generally prostitutes pay fines, they don't go to jail. The pimps/madams, whatever are the real target of prosecutors.

Why did Cecil Suwal (the madam) go to jail, while Eliot Spitzer (the John) go free?
What about Ashley Alexandra Dupre who went free as well?
Why does only the madam do time?
Just wondering.

They aren't the same crime. Soliciting a prostitute is, like Darcy points out, an occasional action. Being a madam is actually one level up from simple prostitution, involving a level of conspiracy (organizing several people), regularity, and probably coercion of the individual prostitutes. There's no equivalency. More equivalent would be the prostitute vs. the john. Generally prostitutes pay fines, they don't go to jail. The pimps/madams, whatever are the real target of prosecutors.
