Why are taxpayers paying for all of these expensive pens handed out after the president signs a bill? And what do they cost per pen?
After these yaahoo's have bankrupted our country they still have the arrogance to buy themselves expensive pens to parade around like trophy's. I swear I counted at least fifty on the tray in front of the president the other day. What is up with that? Signing in bullsh#% legislation and then rewarding themselves with egotistical rewards. Do they really think we can afford any and all wasteful spending? Let me ask some of you married men a question. What would your wife do if you didn't just bring one fishing reel home from the store but instead brought fifty new reels home? I think I know what that answer is. How long are we going to let Washington erode what was once originally an honor to become part of the political makeup of this country. To make changes for the good of the people and then blend back into the civilian population and be proud of your contribution. It's not spending your entire adult life as a career politician never knowing how the other half lives. Hell why not just buy them a watch instead of a pen.

Pens are more symbolic. How would you like the pen that signed the bill for a new space agency or an historic proclamation... or a war?
I think it's worth a few bucks for that tradition. It's not that big of a deal.

I think my comment was more about being facetious then trying to skim a few bucks off of our three trillion dollar debt. By the way our children will have to pay for that, but maybe we can just sell them on the idea that it's a tradition and not that big a deal. I don't know were you start cutting wasteful spending but I think your right about tradition and it's not that big a deal. That's become the apathetic norm for our society. Pork barrel spending is just a tradition and not that big of a deal until you bankrupt the country. Maybe we should just teach our children to speak Mandarin Chinese. Think about this one, take how many years we have been a country and divide it by three trillion seconds that will give you some kind of idea of what kind off doo doo we are in for. OK what's the big deal about a couple of fountain pen's. Well let's not forget about the military hammers at $400.00 a pop, and how about that tunnel to know-where etc. etc. Google Ridiculous Government Purchases by David R. Butcher. I would encourage you to take a look at the one about a government purchase by a NASA supervisor. For posterity's sake I would like to have the pens that will be used to sign the checks to the Saudi Arabians and Chinese, that are government will have to write to get our butts out of this mess. Hope your handy with chop sticks.

A new space agency? So you think it might be nice to have that pen. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It will be a miracle if we can afford (buses) public transportation for our cities in twenty years. Why don't we just spend billions of dollars on Amtrak. Why not bullet trains, Europe has them why can't we? How can I get my hands on one of those pen's? Why not it's just money we can print more of it can't we? Sorry do I sound a little cynical?
