Captain Prabhakaran is a 1991 Tamil action film directed by R. K. Selvamani. It features Vijayakanth in the lead role. It also features Mansoor Ali Khan, Roopini, and Ramya Krishnan. Sarath Kumar appears in a small role. He became a leading actor in his own right years later. the movie was 100th movie for vijayakanth. on those days 100th movie of all leading actors in india was not successful except tamil cinema legend M.G.R for example 100th movie of Ragavendra for Rajinikanth,Raaja paarvai for Kamalhaasan ,Navaraathiri for Sivaji ganesan,Vaathiyar veetu pillai for Sathiyaraj were flopped also this was the second movie for director R.K.Selvamani tamil cinema said second movie was flooped for all directors, so this project faced a huge expectations as well as some bad critics. this was the movie was made by huge budget on those days. this film was successfully runned for 200 days and grossed a huge collection.

This film had a major impact in the growth of Vijayakanth in the Tamil film industry, raising his popularity and visibility. He became sought after for police officers. It also introduced Mansoor Ali Khan to the film industry. He became a noted player of villain characters. It also gave further exposure to Selvamani, although he had directed earlier films.

He was the founder and chief of LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), a militant group in Sri Lanka fighting for separate land for Tamil Eelam people. He was shot dead by Srilankan army on May 28, 2009. His name is Velupillai Prabhakaran. He is also called by some people as Captain Prabhakaran.

There is also a movie in Tamil named Captain Prabhakaran.
