I don't think Central America is what you are looking for.
I believe to me "Middle America" means small to moderate size towns around the central part of the country. Like perhaps Kansas
Try this.
Google a mid-america town.
Try Olathe (KS)
On this one search I find stories about
Parks and recreation
News from the school district
History of a local cowyboy boot company 130 years old
A story about a 5K run on 04.01.09
A man shot outside an Olathe bar
the 5K run was canceled by weather
The City Manager got a raise.
The local softball team wins big.
The girls soccer team wins
Judge considers a new trial on an assault case
Sounds like fun:
Hudson, 27, was convicted in February in her third trial of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. She was shot twice, once each by two Olathe police officers after charging at one of them with a knife at her duplex in April 2007.
The officers responded to a call that Hudson was drunk, suicidal and wielding a knife. They found her in bed and said Hudson ignored repeated commands to drop the knife before she stepped from the bed and approached one of the officers, so they shot her.
OK, That is an example of what you can find.
Now you try it on a town of interest to you.
