Jairam Ramesh was elected to India's Parliament in 2009 and sits on 3 committees: the Public Accounts Committee; the Standing Committee on Finance; and the Committee on Government Assurances. He is Minister of State for Environment and Forests.
He made headlines in July 2009 when, at an environmental conference, he interrupted Hillary Clinton at the podium, who was responding to questions mainly about terrorism, and admonished the interviewers that India was serious about the environment.
