I don't know about the footfault, I haven't seen better footage than the photo I include, so I can't judge that part. (Why don't they have a better shot of her foot on/near the line? Surely they can have Hawkeye for that?)

As for her outburst: That was a typical example of the Williams' attitude. I have rarely seen one of the sisters lose a match in grace, complimenting the opponent, and admitting flat out that she had been defeated.

This 'power' (or abusive) attitude has won them quite a few matches, same as John McEnroe used to swear and curse on court, to get his mindset entirely focussed. However, this time it backfired, as she did it at the completely wrong moment.
What bothers me most is that it didn't only lose her the match, but it also took away part of the glorious victory of Kim Clijsters. Luckily, she went on and won the finals too.

As to her punishment, she's already punished with the biggest possible punishment for abusing a referee, and as far as I'm concerned, that's that. Bigger things happen in sports than an outburst like this.

I can't comment on the technical call but cursing at the umpire generally gets you tossed out of the game in most sports. That's usually enough punishment. Tennis players have been bad tempered and foul mouthed before, although I don't remember reading about this one, usually it's the guys.

IMO, she should be suspended and not be allowed to play in the doubles final.

What happened to Serena could have happened to any one what she did after the call was not nice. People are always ready to judge because they are not in the situation any one and i will say this again any one would have behave in the same manner which she did. Imagine your in the semifinals match and you lose a game because of a bad call by the umpire refree etc. Obviously when you are playing a sport with your adrenaline on high mentally you would not be that compose plus to she would have been upset at the call and that would have totally tick her off. This happens in nearly every sport i wanted her to win but unfortunately she is out.
Yes she was wrong for cursing the line judge but the call made against her was totally unfair.
1.The foot fault call was not deserved
2.The point violation for unsportsman like conduct was fair. To engage anyone with that type of language was uncalled for and as stated by "The chairman and CEO of the women's tennis tour, Stacey Allaster".

please check this link to see what transpired during the match and during the press conference.

No, she didn't deserve the foot fault call, and thus, even the point violation wouldn't have been given if it wasn't for the bad call. However, I believe she deserves additional punishment not just because of the severe words she let out on the court that day but because she hasn't given a proper apology for her improper conduct.

We all make mistakes, and that makes us human. But we would be uplifting humankind in general if we knew how to be humble and apologize for our offensive words and actions.

If no additional punishment is forthcoming, and if Serena still refuses to apologize, the public will eventually be the judge. Just watch her endorsements pull out one after the other.

It's not yet too late; she could still make an effort to express a truly sincere apology.

Serena did not simply curse at the linesperson, she threatened her with physical harm along these lines:

"You don't know me. You better be right. I swear to God I’m *** taking this ball and shoving it down your ***** throat…”

A large angry woman waving a tennis racket at someone and threatening them with personal harm over one call? It was hardly the linesperson's fault the Serena was down 6-4, 6-5. Fourteen unforced errors in the first set had a lot to do with that. Perhaps Serena should have been cursing at herself and threatening to shove tennis ball down her own throat.

I'd say Serena brought it on herself and deserves whatever punishment is handed out. What gives her the right to bully folks and treat them like she is above the rules of decent behavior. If someone had treated me like that, I may have considered calling the police on them.

Serena herself was asked about the foot fault and said "I'm pretty sure I did..." and Mom said "She should have kept calm".

If she thought it was a bad call, she must have complained to the overseeing umpire and not bad mouth the poor lines woman who did what she was trained to do. Just because she is a talented player doesn't mean that she can do anything and get away. She should be suspended from playing the doubles final.
