You are right @cd150.
Not only in the Lacy Peterson case, but many other cases where there is supposed to be another perpetrator, not much of anything is ever done to actually find that person.
Look at another case (OJ) in which the person on trial was found not guilty.
Mr. Simpson claimed that there was a 'true' perp out there and vowed to find him, but again... nothing was really done or found.
Many times the family of people who have been accused of a horrid crime simply don't want to believe that this could/did happen.
I could not possibly imagine the hurt, shame and loss that Scott Peterson's parents have gone through. You have to see the from their perspective that they have lost not only a daughter-in-law, but also a son.
There are 7 stages of grief and I'm sure the parents are having a hard time swallowing the 'guilt' step.

So why wouldnt Scott Petersons parents spend their time more wisely by looking for the people who did this (which I believe was Scott)?
Although I believe the right person is in prison - the parents of Scott would be much more served by finding either the people who did this or evidence that it WASNT Scott. There is no evidence like that so this is their only option. He is GUILTY.
