The projectile can be fired from a twelve gauge shotgun. I guess it's better for people who feel they need a projectile weapon to have another option. The enthusiasm of these people for this weapon is a little unsettling, but Mace didn't lead to a large number of unnecessary attacks that I know of.
On the other hand, the intense eagerness to sell this to the public combined with the implication that it's mostly for police and military concerns me a bit.

Open Thread: New XREP Taser
The XREP is the newest version of the standard Taser. It's a wireless projectile that can hit a target up to 100 feet away. It delivers a 20-second blast of 500 volts. It can be fired from a standard 12 gauge shot gun. In addition, the XREP can be fired three times before it needs to be reloaded.
