The last I have seen or heard was Joe Perry talking about the injuries that Steven had suffered that were keeping him from touring, I don't think there was anything there about him quitting the band. Link to the article attached.

Your source is a bit old being from August. There are new sources that have the singer leaving the band to focus on other things
