Debris from the aircraft has been spotted floating in the Atlantic Ocean. Once any wreckage remaining on the surface has been recovered, a search will begin for the flight data recorders. The debris gives an indication of where to look, but the ocean is 2-3 km (6600-9800 feet) deep in the area, with dozens of square miles of sea floor to cover, and it is possible that nothing more will be found.
