I believe this was unplanned and was one of those moments that make you realize that MJ meant more to his daughter than he could ever mean to any of us. There was nothing for the Jackson family to gain by letting her speak. Im sure Paris knows how some of the public viewed her father. I felt sorry for her, not because she was "exploited", because she lost her father.

I am sorry, but I felt extememly bad for Paris. It almost looked as if they coached her and made her do something that she would have rather not have done.http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/MichaelJackson. You can plainly see in this video that she was not only very upset over the loss of her daddy, but was very nervous in front of the croud. She just appeared forced or coached. I feel that is so wrong to do to a young child especially while mouring over her daddy's death. I can only image the fear that she felt and how it will effect her later in life.

Their sons were the only people that loved MJ, with no lateral interest. So, for her to speak, was like earing the only true loving voice in the whole memorial. It helped give a human touch to the event and she deserved a opportunity to clear the image of her father.

According to my source, the moment was "unscripted" which, although it doesn't directly say it in the link, implies that she chose to say what she said, and nobody was telling her what to say. I think that if she wanted to say that she should have; it's nice to finally hear the media/society saying nice things about Michael Jackson.

I personally do not think that this was a good idea. She is young, and she shouldn't have been out in front of a huge crowd like that, telling what she was feeling. Of course, she should go out, and have a voice, but to speak out at a memorial, especially because of a loss of a loved one at that age. I would understand if it was a lot smaller with family, and maybe a couple friends, but not in front of a huge crowd. You were able to tell that she was nervous, and of course sad. If that was me, I would have felt ridiculous, and nervous up there, with everyone staring and me crying.

At her age, she is old enough to speak and I am sure she wanted to. And the family was probably moved that she wanted to, being that she is so young. I believe she had a right to speak and I am sure that the family knew what and what she could not handle. She did a great job and I am so sorry that she lost her Dad at such a young age. He appears to be a great dad and enjoyed his children.

I was actually fine with her desire to speak.... but what bothered me was when she decided to do that... her aunts and uncles pushing the mike at her and telling her to speak into the mike.... that bothered me... if the child wanted to speak just let her alone... all they had to do was move the mike... and be there for her when she broke down the way she did.

I agree completely. The way they kept moving the mike and telling her to speak up made me feel like they cared more about "the show" than the feelings of that poor little girl. She was obviously heartbroken and could have used more emotional support as opposed to technical support from her family.

I'm all for public grieving, and for Paris to have spoken at a family funeral would have been entirely appropriate and I'm sure cathartic. But having her grieve in front of the entire world felt incredibly exploitative. The only other public funeral in recent years of this magnitude was the death of Princess Diana in 1997. Her sons, William and Harry, were largely left alone by the press. They did not mourn their mother in public until a decade after her passing, when they were ages 22 and 25. The Jackson kids are going to face enough scrutiny for the rest of their lives. To allow this child to put herself out there in this manner just seemed wrong.
