According to Cocke County Tennessee Coroner Terry Jarnagain, there was no evidence of foul play in Sutton's death, but suicide by way of carbon monoxide poison was suspected. His death occured just days before he was to report to prison.
Popcorn sutton killed himself by carbon monoxide poisoning outside his house ,because he couldn't stand the thought of going to prison
