While I can't begin to comprehend the individual situations of the Meeks and Lupoe families (and so I won't even try), I do think that it is important for companies to offer substantial mental health support to people that they are letting go or laying off. Getting laid off from a job can be a traumatic experience and it is the responsiblity of the employer (in my opinion) to help the people they lay off make that transition smoothly.
