Flying is in fact far safer than driving...So, I'm not afraid at all to fly. If you think about it, when you fly you have up, down, left and right to avoid other flying objects, so flying is very safe. The odds of stuff happening like this with the engine are extremely rare, and airplane safety seems to be at its highest nowadays.

But, I won't stop flying...I think we got spoiled a little bit over the years since 9/11...I can't remember a huge incident in America happening since the New York crash that happened shortly after 9/11. So it's still way way safer than driving...

Does recent problems with airplane engines, such as Southwest's flight 273, make you afraid of flying?
Southwest Airlines Flight 273 returned to the airport in Las Vegas shortly after takeoff because the engine light came on. It appears a fire broke out in one of the plane's engines. Does this incident and others, such as the Flight 1549 Hudson Crash, make you afraid of flying?

I will say that I'm slightly nervous about safety standards deteriorating a little bit as airlines have less money to pay employees and they perhaps employ fewer people or less experienced people to keep passengers safe.
