Do you think that other countries are currently designing UFO type aircraft to one day invade US airspace to scare the heck outta us?

Would the US population freak if something like this happened? Not necessarily to attack us, but to just fly these objects into US airspace just to intimidate us and get us on edge for a later attack while we are on edge?

The whole premise that people would simply freak out if UFOs appeared is ridiculous.

First of all we would assume they were man made no matter how strange they looked. It is impossible that some other country would come up with something so utterly advanced and alien that we would think it was an alien. Our military and the Air Force could handle any conceivable vehicle designable by humans today. It's not that technology can't advance its that we will never be so utterly far behind that this scenario is possible.

Also wars aren't won by airplanes (don't tell that to Serbia though), they are won by troops on the ground. There's no way around fighting the army and our millions of citizens with guns.

No . Absolutely NO . If any country develop such aircraft that look and fly like any imaginary UFOs then sure they are super powers and US people act just like what other people in the world now . Nobody mistook US made B2 bomber with UFOs. Even if, majority were US civilians living near military test flying zones.
To cut short nothing gonna change even if some country comes out with such sort of thing. Its easy to imagine and to become hysterical about non existing thing s. If some thing really comes out like that . US have enough technology to verify the flying objects whether they are man made or alien made.

Large Saucer shaped aircraft have been tried various times and they've all failed. Such a shape is utterly impractical for fighters and bombers. Below is link to images of the various saucer shaped aircraft built:
