In the sense it has become so extensive that we might as well be living in the medieval times feudal system.

At the top you have your very rich, who basically control America.
Next you have your just rich.
Then you have government, etc. They may not be "rich" per say but, more powerful than the peasant.
And then you have the rest of us, the peasants.
Middle class = eliminated.
Hope explaining the one word answer.. wasn't cheating

It seems to me that some people are born with advantages. Children who are born to people of wealth and standing have better opportunities to make a good life for themselves. They have the opportunity to go to good schools and colleges, to marry others in their financial status.
I know that you didn't ask for this so forgive me if I take this somewhere else. The true difference between rich and poor is a matter of the haves and have nots.
True wealth is in your heart not in your wallet. it is true that I am a have not as far as money is concerned. But i will never have to worry about things that the ellite worry about. I live in a modest home with a modest income, sometimes have trouble paying bills and putting food on the table. But if the economy goes to the dumper, I just don't have far to fall.

I know it may not seem like the normal "humane" view of the gap between rich and poor, but it's the way I look at it. Of course, you have the unfortunate cases where the poor just have no way of getting the tools necessary to get out of their unfortunate circumstances, and you have the case of the "Old Money" where no matter what they do, they will stay rich, however, in the United States literally anyone can become very successful (in monetary terms), and I believe in most capitalist societies. Believe it or not, believe have come from the poorest of the poor, and made it to controlling cities.

Happiness (in numerous studies the poor were actually found to be happier than the super rich)
Spiritual (Also in many studies the poor were shown to be much more deeply spiritual)
Materialism (the poor learn to do without so many material possesions allowing them to appreciate more important things in life such as family bonds and love)
Health (the poor have less access to healthcare)
Racism (part of the reason why certain groups are still oppressed has to do with racism)
Truth ( the poor live a life where they are constantly facing lifes truths beautiful and harsh, while the rich have enough money to not have to deal with the truths of life until one day they wake up and realize they have been living am fake meaningless life)
Distrust (there is distrust coming from both sides, the poor do not trust the rich, I believe people have the right to become as rich as they want if they do it in an ethical manner and give back to the communtiy in some way, the rich are distrusting of the poor also worrying about stereotypes like the poor stealing or being uneducated)

WIDE: The gap between the rich and poor is so wide that Americans dont like to admit that they are poor. the rich get featured in magazines and the poor read those magazines. They buy those mags with their not enough money. Also, the only contact they get with rich people is through the magazines. The poor produce what they can't buy eg, in a factory poor people make cars they cant buy. and are given minimum wage. That kinda stuff. Also d rich always wanna get richer. Never poor. so they try to stop other people from getting to where they are!
