Are you in the path of Hurricane Ida?

Computer models are showing Ida reaching CONUS ( continental US ) within 24-36 hours.
Are you in the path?
How do you prepare?

I am in Central Florida, so technically we should have rain and winds from Hurricane Ida but are not due to get the full brunt of it, thank goodness.

It is due to hit the Panhandle, I believe, tomorrow.

I went through some very bad hurricanes here in 2004 one week apart and had to listen to the shingles on my roof flying off during the many many hours of those, and I have no desire to go through another.

Usually winds will go down pretty much before it gets to Central Florida inland, but it didn't that time.

I also went through bad hurricanes in Miami years ago.

You can only prepare to a certain point and then have to do a lot of praying. My sister and daughter were thought to be in "safe" areas during two hurricanes, and both got extreme damage.

We are also affected by hurricane Ida. I live on coastal Mississippi. My children have a half day of school and my husband (National Guard) is on call until it hits. My job is too far north to be affected (except rain and a little wind) , but we live towards the coast. It is possible that we may have to evacuate to the armory so we are just waiting to see.

When my children get home they will be putting together a few things they will need if we have to leave (i don't think we will have to). things such as personal computer, clothes, medicines. getting the animals secured.

I am in fact in the projected path- the Alabama Gulf Coast. Preparing usually takes place within 12 hours of it making landfall.

This means:

1.) Going to the bank for extra cash. (If the damage is bad enough, you'll need it.)
2.) Bottled water supply for @ 3 days.
3.) Nonperishable food (granola bars, pop tarts, snacks)
4.) Covering windows with plywood
5.) Securing outside furniture, or bringing it in
6.) Bringing pets inside
7.) Filling up the vehicles with gas
8.) Making sure there are @ least 3 days of clean clothes for everyone
9.) Charge the cell phones
10) Batteries, flashlights, and candles are gathered and/or replenished

If it's really bad, then we either prepare to head north with most of the items above, or go to a shelter, such as a National Guard Armory or church, with sleeping bags and pillow in hand.

I actually chose this as best answer. I'll see what happened, must be a bit of a glitch in the system.
