Tonga is an archipelago located in the south Pacific Ocean. The archipelago is composed of 171 islands and actually 48 of them are inhabited!
The population is estimated to be about 101,991, about two-thirds of which live on the Kingdom's main island of Tongatapu, which happens to be near the site of the 7.9 underwater earthquake.
While a tsunami warning has been called for Tonga and neighboring islands, no significant damage related to the quake has been reported. A quake of this magnitude could even cause increased wave activity for some areas in Hawaii.
