Kelty has a full range of camping and hiking gear - more than six hundred items including carriers with or without backpacks that look rugged and practical (2) There may be other brands for hiking that would have a lot of support. Perhaps a good outdoor store would have a selection.

How about the Carry-B baby carrier? My hubby likes it because he can put it on real quickly and the design does not look like a typical 'baby carrier'. It looks more like a sporty knapsack that you wear on the front. Half the time people don't even realise there is a baby there until the baby sticks its hands out to grab something!
