1. If you can select a person who had kids and now they are adults.
2. If you can select a person that you really know. For example, a lady from church.

How to select a babysitter would be to have an interview with the canidates. Dont allow just anyone to have your child in there hands. If possible get a relative or someone that you personally know. If not just find out all the information you can about this person there background and previous experience with children. You child is the most valuable person to you and you wouldnt want to put them in the wrong persons care.
