New York assembly has apparently voted to legalize gay marriage in New York - any details?

"The measure, introduced last month by Governor David Paterson, passed by a margin of 89 to 52 in the state's lower house, where Democrats have a comfortable majority. A similar bill passed in the same assembly by an 85-61 vote in 2007." according to Reuters.
The next step is the state senate. The pundits say it is iffy.
If the senate passes it, the governor will certainly sign it as he introduced the bill.
New York already recognizes same sex marriages from elsewhere, so the practical effect is pretty minor. The bordering states and Canada to the north and east allow such marriage, so it's just a quick jaunt and minor inconvenience for gays and lesbians wishing to wed. But, New York is a big, major state and if it legalizes same sex marriages that will be a significant step in building national momentum for this movement.
