I actually live in New Mexico (Albuquerque) and have been up to Santa Fe several times. If money is no object I recommend staying at the Eldorado Hotel http://www.eldoradohotel.com/ Rooms start at $160 which is a little high, but once you get up to Santa Fe you'll notice that EVERYTHING is priced like you were in LA on the sunset strip.
If you don't feel like paying that much I would shop around for other hotels here:

Be sure to read the reviews as they can often be very helpful in deciding where you stay.
