What was the conclusion?

What is the difference between tipping M$1 and M$.25? Can you clarify when these amounts are in action?

default tip is 1 but if a guide sees something that we deem "unworthy of the 1" but is not bad enough to completely delete it we will manually bump it down to the .25

Wow... Good luck on that. Seems like that's going to take quite a bit of your time... and, judging by the questions I see, it's going to be interesting to see how you decide between the two.

Well... I've been stuck with XXX.75c in account. I'll be glad to be able to round it out to a whole dollar! Though if it's only on dumb questions, perhaps I won't be able to bring myself to answer them anyway. :)

At the end of the day here is what we've learned:

1. Folks are not here for the money. It's nice, but the top folks are here because it's a fun place to hang out.

2. The M$1 does increase participation slightly.

3. M$2 does not increase participation significantly (or at all).

Taking that all in we figure the following:

a) It's better to have 2x as many questions getting M$1 each (say 500 questions a day) vs. 250 getting M$2.
b) It's better to leave at least .25 on a question rather than zero (just feels like people should get SOMETHING for their effort)
c) It's really easy to manage the system if we don't have to worry about the auto-tipping. At M$2 there is a lot of money on the line (i.e. M$1,000 a day when we hit 500 questions a day), so it's better to keep it at M$1 and not worry if a couple of easy questions slip by.
d) Since we only have 250 questions a day right now it's easy for the 2-3 community manager to scan them and see if they should be bumped to .25.

Yes, I'd love to see, eventually, how these experiments panned out.

Awww, oh well, M$1 is better than nothing. I can see how it would be hard to make money if you are constantly giving it out.
