New Feature: Ever want to add an answer to a question that has already been closed? Now you can.
Users can now add answers to questions that have already been resolved. They will still get the two points for the answer but they will not be eligible for any best answer reward or tip. Would you find this feature helpful? Test it out and post a link to an answer that you have added to an already closed question.

Great idea!
Like many I am sure, I see a question I knew I could have answered and just wished I had seen it when I had logged on. Now I have my chance!
It means that I can answer rather than put a answer as a comment. A comments a comment, an answer is a answer. Let's not get it the wrong way around!
It is also really helpful. If a Mahalo user wants to know an answer and has seen a question has already been answered - it might not have a good answer because no-one could add an answer. Now, people from Google may ask a question in the search engine and see a Mahalo question - and lots of answers after the time is up are there for those who need it.
Here's an question which has already been answered - which I have now answered: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/technology-and-internet/what-websites-allow-you-to-self-publish-an-e-book.
I would love to see a feature in which you can add extra information to your answer. Like this:

Windows 7 was originally codenamed Blackcomb.

Before Blackcomb it was codenamed Vienna.

YES!! There are some questions that I know I could have answered better- I was just too slow.
If you answer after the question has been closed, does that mean other people can't tip you for having a helpful answer? Like how you can tip someone's answer even if you didn't ask the question...

Sure, you can always receive those sort of tips.
Love it! So glad you're trying this out! There are many times I've had a helpful answer I've seen when voting that I could have answered but didn't see before it went to a vote. Usually my answer would add useful information that no one else mentioned. I feel kind of silly answering it in comments, as I have sometimes done. Much better to have it be an answer with some points, even if it's not eligible for Best Answer.

If I feel like I have something I really must add, I add it as a comment too.
I'm not sure there's a big benefit to being able to answer rather than comment, cos I'm not sure anyone will read the answer. I suspect a comment on the chosen Best Answer would still have more chance of getting noticed.

A great step in the right direction...
I will continue to harp at questions that closed too early, but at least this encourages me to add an answer anyway.

Sounds like a good idea to me!
It takes a bit of the pressure off of when to close your question as well as helping those with answers that were just a bit late.

Great idea, it would also eliminate clutter and repeat questions from the site; because now there could be just one page with all the great answers anyone could ask for!

Well, I like the idea but am not sure how useful it will be. I don't know that I will often see the questions, unless I go out of my way. The time it mostly happens is when I go to vote from time to time. Would the answer be a candidate for best answer while not eligible for the tip? The tips don't matter much to me but I like to compete for best answers.
One of my complaints about Mahalo in general is that I write an answer but often it seems no one ever reads it. I think this would be even worse if I answered questions where the asker is gone and even voters won't look.

ps. I notice Jason is marking helpful all the answers he agrees with even though they do not actually answer the question by posting a link to an old question that the answerer has now answered. This is in contrast to his marking my reply to another feature question unhelpful under almost exactly the same circumstances. This proves my point about helpful/unhelpful. Even the founder doesn't get it right.
