Excellent idea. It does raise the question of which charities to include, of course.
PayPal apparently has accounts for several thousand charities - that should make it as simple as redirecting the money when you cash in M$40 or more. And would solve the problem of which charities to include - any that have a PayPal account could share in the fun.

I think this could be a useful feature for people that don't earn enough to go over the M$40 limit. It'll make accumulating M$ worthwhile.
A variety of causes to choose from would be important though, not everyone would want to donate to the same thing. I'd certainly choose Kiva over open source projects.

How about a way to donate your Mahalo dollars to open source projects?
First off, I really enjoy using Mahalo Answers.
The making money part isn't really a big factor for me (other than a good challenge).
But if there was a simple way to donate my Mahalo dollars to different open source projects (and maybe even a charity or two), that would make me happier than just pocketing a few bucks.
What do you think?

People that earn enough to withdraw their money can obviously donate it to whoever they choose. And have been doing just that! (Kiva is popular, and there is even a dedicated Mahalo group for that.) I think this could be a useful feature for people that don't earn enough to go over the M$40 limit. It'll make accumulating M$ worthwhile.
