Never bin to Amsterdam, I would really like to go. What is your take on Amsterdam? Any pointers?

Amsterdam is a fantastic city! It has a mix of everything and a small footprint which make it perfect for a short/medium stay.
In terms of restaurants, it's big enough to get international influences with a couple of Michelin Star establishments, it has plenty of its own cultural cuisine (pancakes, cured meats, pickled fish/vegetables etc., and it has an interesting indonesian influence from its colonial days.
Like much of Europe there is plenty of history and classic architecture, though the war history is most prominent in this city with the museum of Anne Frank being a major drawcard.
There are a number of liberties in this city which also make it a little different including the consumption of absinthe, the use of marajuana, and the existence of an expansive red-light district (it's currently being reduced though).
