Needing to do some python for scientific work - any good "From Ruby to Python" references that someone can recommend?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi There,
Although I haven't found any specific books dedicated to a transition from Ruby to Python, I think you'll find the following books very useful to scientific and/or computational programming with Python:
1) Numerical Methods in Engineering with Python by Jaan Kiusalaas
2) Python Scripting for Computational Science by Hans Langtangen
3) Python for BioInformatics by Jason Kinser
Also if you're looking for an intro for the language, check these out:
1) Beginning Python by Magnus Hetland
2) Learning Python by Mark Lutz
Enjoy and Have a Lot of Fun!
